Solaria Operators Course
Eighteen years servicing the solarium industry in Australia has enabled us to put our knowledge and expertise into developing a Solaria Operators Training Course which has been Government approved by Radiation Health QLD (ED159) to provide comprehensive training on all aspects of Solaria operation in Australia. The aim of the course is to provide the knowledge and skills required to acquire possession and use licensees for operating solaria for cosmetic purposes. The course strives to supply the most up to date information about regulatory requirements at the time of publication, however all holders of possession or use licenses should ensure they keep informed of amendments through regular contact with the Queensland Government Radiation Health Unit.
Best practice of operators who have the welfare of their customer uppermost in mind can only be gained by technical knowledge and competency regarding the public health issues combined with the science of tanning. This training program is designed to provide the most up-to-date information in both areas. Once you have completed the training program you will have gained the skills and confidence in managing the day to day regulatory requirements regarding the operation of solaria for cosmetic purposes.
Objective
Completion of this training course and being awarded a pass in the examination will ensure that the training requirements of a possession licensee’s radiation safety and protection plan are met. Use licensees who are well informed and knowledgeable about solaria will also be complying with a guiding principle of the Radiation Safety Act 1999, which in part is to set radiation dose limits so that the health risks to any person exposed to radiation are below levels considered unacceptable.
The knowledge gained through this course and other requirements of the Radiation Safety Act 1999 and Radiation Safety Regulation 2010 including radiation safety officer training and adherence to a radiation safety and protection plan will help to establish a safer situation than where cosmetic tanning practices are uncontrolled.
Licensing Requirements
A person who owns (or has control of) the solaria or solarium must have a possession licence, and anyone who operates the solaria must have a use licence. These licensing requirements are subject to Queensland Government laws, namely the Radiation Safety Act 1999 and the Radiation Safety Regulation 2010.
